Pullcord Small Engine

Small engine repair in Milton

Mowers, snowblowers, chainsaws, trimmers and generators, all makes. Pullcord Small Engine will diagnose it and call with a price before a single part is ordered.

Certified small engine technicianPickup & deliveryMost repairs in under a weekAll makes serviced

Pullcord Small Engine can fix the machines that only fail when you need them. Most of it comes down to fuel — ethanol gasoline left in a carburettor over a season causes more repairs than wear ever does — so we rebuild it properly, set the carburettor to spec and tell you how to store it so it starts next year. Diagnosis and price come before parts, and we will tell you straight when a machine is not worth the repair.

Pullcord Small Engine is invented, and that number is a 555 line. Your site says your name.

Services

The work small engine technicians actually sell.

Written out properly, because a list of one-word services tells a homeowner nothing. Delete the ones you do not do and add the ones we missed.

Lawn mower service & repair

Push and riding mowers tuned, blades sharpened and balanced, decks cleaned and belts and spindles replaced before they let go mid-season.

Snowblower repair & pre-season tune

Augers, shear pins, friction discs, chutes and carburettors sorted in the fall, because the first storm is the worst time to find out.

Chainsaw sharpening & service

Chains sharpened, bars dressed, carburettors adjusted and clutch and brake checked so the saw cuts straight instead of pulling to one side.

Trimmers, blowers & hedge trimmers

Two-stroke handhelds that will not start, will not idle or bog under load brought back with fresh fuel systems and proper carburettor settings.

Carburettor rebuilds & fuel system cleaning

The single most common repair we do, and almost always caused by ethanol fuel sitting in a machine over the off-season.

Generator service & load testing

Portable and standby generators run up, oil and filters changed and output tested under load so they start when the power goes out.

Pressure washers & pumps

Pumps rebuilt, unloader valves replaced and engines serviced so the washer holds pressure instead of pulsing and stalling.

Pickup, delivery & seasonal storage prep

We collect heavy equipment from your driveway, service it, and return it fuelled, stabilised and ready to put away.

Credentials

The things a customer checks before they ring.

Listed near the top of the page instead of buried in an About tab. Fill in your numbers and delete anything you do not hold.

  • 435A Small Engine Technician

Certificate of Qualification in small engine repair.

  • Manufacturer-authorised warranty service

Factory-trained on the major engine and equipment lines we carry, so in-warranty repairs stay in-house.

  • Genuine parts & correct specifications

OEM parts, correct plug gaps and carburettor settings — small engines are unforgiving of near enough.

  • Blades sharpened and balanced

Every blade balanced after sharpening; an unbalanced blade destroys the crankshaft bearing it spins on.

  • Diagnosis before parts

You get a call with the repair cost before we order anything, and the machine back untouched if you decline.

  • Insured shop & premises

Your equipment is covered while it is in our care.

On your booking calendar

The jobs people book you for.

These land in the calendar the day you publish. A customer picks one, picks a slot out of your real hours, and the request arrives with the address and what is wrong.

  • Mower tune-up

Questions

What people ask small engine technicians.

Answered on your site, so the same conversation does not happen on the phone six times a week. Edit any of them.

It ran fine last season and now it will not start. Why?

Almost always the fuel. Pump gasoline contains ethanol, which attracts water and turns to varnish in a few months, and that gums up the tiny jets in a small carburettor. Left long enough it eats the diaphragms too. Draining the tank and running it dry or adding stabiliser at the end of every season prevents most of the repairs we see.

Is it worth repairing or should I replace it?

We tell you the repair cost before doing it, and we will say when it is more than the machine is worth. As a rule, quality equipment with a good engine is worth repairing for years, and a big-box mower with a seized deck spindle usually is not. Age matters less than whether parts are still available for it.

How often should mower blades be sharpened?

Roughly every twenty to twenty-five hours of cutting, which is once or twice a season for most lawns. A dull blade tears grass rather than cutting it, which leaves the tips brown a day later and makes the lawn look sick. We balance every blade after sharpening, because an unbalanced blade vibrates the engine's crankshaft bearing to death.

When should I bring the snowblower in?

September or October. Everyone brings theirs in the week of the first big storm, and that is when the shop is three weeks deep and parts are backordered. Off-season service is faster, and often cheaper.

Do you pick up?

Yes, for riding mowers, larger snowblowers and generators, within our service area for a flat fee. Handhelds are cheaper to drop off. Either way you get a call with the diagnosis and price before we start.
