Nolan Electric

Licensed electricians serving Milton

Panel upgrades, rewires, pot lights and EV chargers. Nolan Electric will pull the ESA permit, meet the inspector, and leave the breaker panel properly labelled.

ECRA/ESA licensedPermit & inspection includedFully insuredUpfront pricing

Nolan Electric started with one van, a licence, and a habit of answering the phone. Since then the work has been the same: do it to code, explain it in plain language, and leave the place cleaner than we found it. Every job is permitted through the ESA, every panel gets labelled properly, and nothing gets buried behind drywall that we would not want an inspector to see.

Nolan Electric is invented, and that number is a 555 line. Your site says your name.

Services

The work electricians actually sell.

Written out properly, because a list of one-word services tells a homeowner nothing. Delete the ones you do not do and add the ones we missed.

Panel upgrades

Swap a tired 60 or 100 amp panel for a 200 amp service so the house can carry a heat pump, an EV charger and a finished basement without nuisance trips.

Knob-and-tube & aluminum rewiring

Replace the old wiring insurers refuse to cover, one circuit or one storey at a time, with as few holes in your plaster as the job allows.

EV charger installation

Level 2 charger mounted, load calculation done and the circuit run to the garage or driveway, permitted and inspected.

Pot light retrofits

Dimmable LED pot lights cut into existing ceilings on a proper switched circuit, laid out so the room lights evenly instead of in hot spots.

Troubleshooting & dead circuits

Half the outlets out, a breaker that keeps tripping, lights that flicker — we trace it to the actual fault instead of replacing parts and hoping.

Standby generators & transfer switches

Portable inlet or automatic standby generator wired through a proper transfer switch so you never backfeed the grid during an outage.

Service mast & meter base repair

Storm-damaged or pulled-away service masts re-secured and resealed, coordinated with the utility so power is off for hours, not days.

Smoke, CO & GFCI safety upgrades

Interconnected smoke and CO alarms, GFCI protection in kitchens, baths and outdoors, and AFCI breakers on bedroom circuits.

Questions

What people ask electricians.

Answered on your site, so the same conversation does not happen on the phone six times a week. Edit any of them.

How do I know if my panel needs upgrading?

The usual signs are a 60 or 100 amp service on the label, a fuse box instead of breakers, no room left for new breakers, or a breaker that trips whenever two big appliances run at once. If you are adding an EV charger, a heat pump, a hot tub or a basement suite, we do a load calculation first — sometimes the existing service is fine and you only need a subpanel.

Do I need a permit, and who handles it?

Almost all electrical work in Ontario needs an ESA notification, and only a licensed contractor can file one. We pull it, meet the inspector, and give you the Certificate of Acceptance. Keep that certificate — insurers and buyers' lawyers ask for it, and unpermitted work is the most common thing that stalls a house sale.

My insurer says knob-and-tube or aluminum wiring is a problem. What are my options?

For knob-and-tube, most insurers want it fully removed from the living space. For aluminum branch wiring, many will accept a certified pigtailing remediation at every device instead of a full rewire, which costs a fraction of the price. We inspect first, tell you which route your insurer will actually accept, and put it in writing.

How long will my power be off?

A panel upgrade is a one day job for most homes, with the power off for roughly four to six hours in the middle of it. Rewires are done circuit by circuit so you keep power to the rest of the house overnight. We tell you the shutdown window the day before so you can plan around the fridge and anyone working from home.

What drives the price on electrical work?

Access, mostly. A basement with an open ceiling costs far less to run circuits through than a finished second floor with plaster walls. After that it is distance from the panel, whether the service itself needs upgrading, and how much drywall repair is involved. We quote a fixed price after seeing it, not a rate per hour that grows.

Is your work guaranteed?

Yes — our workmanship is warrantied, and manufacturer warranty on the equipment is passed straight through to you. If something we installed misbehaves, we come back and make it right.
