Loadbearing Movers

Local and long-distance movers in Milton

Local moves by the hour, long-distance by weight, plus packing, pianos, safes and storage. Loadbearing Movers will put the estimate in writing and show up with the truck, the pads and the crew size you were quoted.

Insured & WSIB coveredWritten estimate before bookingTruck, pads & dollies includedLocal & long-distance

Loadbearing Movers started with one truck and a habit of showing up when we said we would. The work has not changed much since: quote it in writing, wrap it properly, carry it carefully and set it down where you want it, whether that is across town or across the country. Every crew is insured and covered by WSIB, every long-distance load rides on a bill of lading, and if a piece needs a piano board or a stair climber we bring one instead of hoping.

Loadbearing Movers is invented, and that number is a 555 line. Your site says your name.

Services

The work movers actually sell.

Written out properly, because a list of one-word services tells a homeowner nothing. Delete the ones you do not do and add the ones we missed.

Local moves by the hour

Two or three movers and a 20 or 26 foot truck, billed from the time we arrive to the last box off the truck, with pads, straps, dollies and shrink wrap included. You get the hourly rate and a realistic hour count in writing before we book the date.

Long-distance moves

Ottawa, Montreal, the Maritimes or out west, priced by weight from a certified scale ticket and delivered inside a date window you agree to before we load. Every item goes on a numbered inventory and a bill of lading so nothing is a matter of memory at the other end.

Packing & unpacking

Full or partial packing the day before, with dish barrels, wardrobe cartons, mattress bags and picture boxes, so moving day is loading and nothing else. Unpacking and box removal afterward if you want the place livable that night.

Piano & safe moves

Uprights, baby grands and gun safes to about 1,000 pounds moved on piano boards and stair-climbing dollies by a crew that has done it before, with the legs and lyre off a grand and back on at the far end. Send us the model and a photo of the stairs and we will tell you honestly whether it goes.

Storage between homes

Short-term storage between closings or long-term while you sort out the next place, in sealed wooden vaults inside a heated warehouse. Everything is inventoried on the way in and delivered back on a day you pick, on the same truck it left on.

Condo & apartment moves

We send the certificate of insurance your property manager asks for, work inside the elevator window you booked, and pad the walls, corners and floors on the route in. Loading dock, underground parking or a Toronto street permit, we have done it that way before.

Office & small commercial moves

Desks, filing cabinets, servers and stock moved evenings or weekends so you open Monday in the new space. Labelled to a floor plan, so the boxes land at the right desk instead of in a pile by the door.

Senior & downsizing moves

Moving a parent from a house to an apartment or a retirement residence, with packing, the pieces that fit set up in the new place, and the rest to family, donation or disposal. Slower pace, one point of contact, and nothing thrown out without asking.

Credentials

The things a customer checks before they ring.

Listed near the top of the page instead of buried in an About tab. Fill in your numbers and delete anything you do not hold.

  • Cargo & liability insurance

Commercial general liability and cargo coverage on every load, with a certificate of insurance sent to your condo or landlord on request.

  • WSIB coverage in good standing

Clearance certificate available before the move, so a mover hurt on your stairs is our claim and not yours.

  • CVOR registered with the Ontario MTO

Our trucks carry a Commercial Vehicle Operator's Registration and pass the annual safety inspection Ontario requires of them.

  • Canadian Association of Movers member

Bound by the CAM code of conduct: a written estimate, a bill of lading on every move, and a dispute process if something goes wrong.

On your booking calendar

The jobs people book you for.

These land in the calendar the day you publish. A customer picks one, picks a slot out of your real hours, and the request arrives with the address and what is wrong.

Questions

What people ask movers.

Answered on your site, so the same conversation does not happen on the phone six times a week. Edit any of them.

How do you charge, and can the bill end up higher than the estimate?

Local moves are an hourly rate for the crew and truck, from arrival to the last item off, plus a set travel charge. Long-distance moves are priced by weight and distance from a scale ticket, with the estimate in writing before we load. Under Ontario's Consumer Protection Act a mover cannot bill more than 10 percent over a written estimate unless you agreed to added work, and we will tell you on the day if the hours are running long, not on the invoice.

Are my things insured if something breaks?

Every mover in Canada includes basic carrier liability, which is 60 cents per pound per item, so a 40 pound television is covered for 24 dollars. That is not insurance in any useful sense. We offer replacement value protection for a fee, and many home insurance policies cover goods in transit, so it is worth a call to your broker before the move. Either way, tell us about the fragile and valuable pieces beforehand so they are wrapped and loaded accordingly.

How far ahead should I book?

Two to four weeks for a local move is comfortable, longer for long-distance. The last few days of the month, Saturdays, and June through September book up first because that is when most closings and leases land. A mid-month weekday is easier to get and usually cheaper, if you have any say in the date.

Do I need to empty drawers, and is there anything you will not move?

For a local move, dressers can usually stay full of clothes as long as nothing heavy or breakable is inside, and we wrap them shut. Fridges and freezers should be emptied and defrosted the day before. We cannot carry propane tanks, paint, aerosols, fuel or anything else flammable, and on long-distance moves plants and perishable food stay behind. Jewellery, documents and medication should ride with you, not on the truck.

Can you get a piano or a safe up a staircase?

Most of the time, yes. An upright piano goes up a straight residential staircase on a board with three movers; a baby grand or a gun safe over about 700 pounds may need a stair-climbing dolly, an extra pair of hands, or a look at the turn on the landing before we commit. Send us the make and model and a photo of the stairs and we will tell you before the day whether it goes, and what it will cost.

What do I need to sort out with my building or the city before moving day?

In a condo or apartment, book the elevator with property management as soon as you have a date, and ask whether they need a certificate of insurance from us, since most in Ontario do. On a street with parking restrictions, the city can issue a temporary no-parking permit for the truck; Toronto and several other municipalities do this online. We will remind you of both when we confirm the booking.
