About us

About Mehar's Landscaping

Mehar's Landscaping builds landscapes that still look right in year five, which means most of the money goes into the parts you cannot see: base depth, compaction, drainage and grade. We locate before we dig, we protect what stays, and we plant things that suit your light and soil rather than whatever looked good at the nursery that week.

What we do

Landscaping services

Patios, retaining walls, sod, gardens and drainage. Mehar's Landscaping will state the base depth in the quote and stand behind the settlement for two full years.

  • Interlock patios, walkways & driveways

Pavers laid on a compacted granular base deep enough for our frost cycle, with proper edge restraint and polymeric sand so it stays flat.

  • Retaining walls & garden walls

Engineered block or armour stone with drainage stone, geogrid and a base course below frost — the parts you never see are what keeps it standing.

  • Sod, seeding & grading

Strip the old lawn, correct the grade so water runs away from the house, and lay fresh sod on properly amended topsoil.

  • Garden design & planting

Planting plans built around your light, soil and how much time you actually want to spend out there, weighted toward hardy and native species.

  • Irrigation install & winterization

Zoned sprinkler and drip systems with a smart controller, plus spring startup and fall blowout so nothing splits over winter.

  • Landscape lighting

Low-voltage path, uplight and step lighting laid out for how the yard is used after dark, wired to survive being run over by an aerator.

  • Pruning, cleanups & maintenance

Spring and fall cleanups, shrub and small-tree pruning done at the right time of year, and seasonal maintenance programs.

  • Drainage & downspout solutions

French drains, dry wells and regraded swales for the corner of the yard that stays a swamp for three days after rain.

Questions

Frequently asked

Hardscaping — interlock, walls, steps — runs from thaw to freeze-up and books out fast, so getting on the schedule early matters more than the exact month. Sod does best in spring and early fall, not July. Planting is best in spring or early fall so roots establish before summer heat or winter.

Almost always inadequate base. Pavers need a compacted granular base — deeper for a driveway than a walkway — compacted in lifts, with edge restraint and the right bedding layer. Our quotes state the base depth in writing. If a quote does not mention base depth, that is where the savings came from, and you will see it in three years.

In most Ontario municipalities, walls above roughly one metre need a building permit and often an engineered design, and anything near a property line or a slope gets more scrutiny. We check your municipality's rule before quoting and coordinate the engineering when it is needed — a wall that has to come back down is the most expensive kind.

Water it hard: daily and deeply for the first two weeks, ideally in the morning, then taper off as it roots. Stay off it as much as you can for the first two weeks and hold the first mow until it needs it, at a high blade setting. Most sod that fails was underwatered in week one, not defective.

Usually. It comes down to where the water is coming from and where it can go — regrading, extending downspouts, a swale, or a French drain to a dry well or the street where permitted. We look at it in the rain if we can, because a dry site hides the answer.

Yes. New planting and new lawn need attention through the first season, and we offer seasonal maintenance and cleanup programs. We will also just hand you a simple care sheet if you would rather do it yourself.
