Who we are

About Escarpment Alarm & Camera Ltd.

Escarpment Alarm & Camera Ltd. started out fixing systems other companies had walked away from: dead diallers, cameras nobody could log into, keypads that beeped every night at three. The habit stuck. Sensors go where the house actually gets entered, cameras get aimed so you can read a face, and monitoring runs over LTE so a cut phone line does not switch it off. Every system leaves with the codes, the app logins and the insurance certificate in your hands, not ours.

What we offer

Our services

Work we take on for homes and businesses in Milton and nearby.

  • 01

    Monitored alarm systems

DSC or Qolsys panels with door contacts, motion sensors and glass-break detectors, reporting over LTE to a ULC-listed monitoring station. We program the zones, set up the app and send you the monitoring certificate your insurer asks for.

  • 02

    Security cameras & NVRs

PoE cameras recording to an NVR in the house, so footage stays yours and keeps recording when the internet drops. Aimed at the doors, the driveway and the side gate, and tested at night so you can actually make out a face or a plate.

  • 03

    Video doorbells

Ring, Nest and Eufy doorbells wired to the existing chime transformer, or a new 24 volt one when the old transformer cannot carry the load. We check the Wi-Fi signal at the door before mounting anything, because a doorbell that drops offline is worse than no doorbell.

  • 04

    Access control & intercoms

Fob and keypad readers, electric strikes and maglocks for offices, condos and shops, wired to release on the fire alarm as the Ontario Fire Code requires. Fobs get added and cancelled from a laptop, so a staff change never means rekeying the building.

  • 05

    Alarm takeovers & LTE upgrades

Already have a panel from another company? We take over most DSC, Honeywell and Paradox systems, replace the dead phone-line dialler with an LTE communicator and put it on monitoring at a rate you can leave without penalty.

  • 06

Monitored smoke, CO & water sensors

Smoke, carbon monoxide and flood sensors on the same alarm panel, so the station calls you and the fire department when nobody is home. They sit alongside the code-required alarms in the house rather than replacing them.

  • 07

    Commercial security & video verification

Intrusion, cameras and live video verification for shops, warehouses and yards, so an alarm goes to police as a confirmed break-in instead of one more unverified signal in the queue. Set up so a keyholder can check the cameras from bed before deciding to drive in.

  • 08

    Service, repairs & false-alarm fixes

Beeping keypads, low-battery trouble, a motion sensor that trips when the furnace kicks in, cameras that went dark after a router change. We fix the cause rather than resetting the panel, because most GTA municipalities now bill you for repeat false alarms.

Good questions

Frequently asked

Usually, yes. Most Ontario insurers take somewhere between 5 and 15 percent off the home policy for a monitored alarm, and a bit more when monitored smoke and water sensors are on the same panel. They will ask for a certificate from the monitoring station, which we send you the day the system goes live.

No phone line. The panel reports over an LTE communicator on the cellular network, so a cut line or a dead router does not take the alarm offline, and the backup battery in the panel keeps it running through a power outage. Cameras on a local NVR keep recording during an internet outage; you just cannot watch them remotely until it comes back.

You can, and we will set it up that way if you want. Be clear about what you are giving up: nobody calls the police or fire department when you are asleep or on a plane, and most insurers only give the discount for a monitored system. A lot of people land on cameras and doorbell self-monitored, and the alarm on a monitoring plan.

Recording your own property, including the street and sidewalk in front of it, is legal in Ontario. Keep them off a neighbour's windows, yard and pool, and think twice about audio recording, which has its own rules. A business should post a sign that cameras are in use, which is what privacy law expects, and we set privacy masks in the camera so the neighbour's kitchen is blacked out even if it is in frame.

The station calls the numbers on your contact list to verify, and if nobody answers or the password is wrong they dispatch police. Some Ontario municipalities charge for repeat false alarms and a few require the alarm to be registered with police, so we tell you which applies where you live and set the entry delays and pet-immune sensors so you are not paying those fees.

In most cases. DSC, Honeywell, Paradox and similar panels can be reprogrammed to us and fitted with an LTE communicator, so you keep the sensors and keypads and only the monitoring changes. Some proprietary systems from the big national providers are locked and have to be replaced; we can tell you which you have from a photo of the panel and keypad.
