Who we are

About Coldstream Refrigeration

Coldstream Refrigeration has kept commercial kitchens and mechanical rooms running for years, which mostly means showing up fast and fixing the cause rather than the symptom. Charge is weighed, leaks are found before gas goes in, coils get cleaned instead of ignored, and every visit leaves you with temperatures on paper. Service agreements are welcome but never a condition of getting help.

What we offer

Our services

Work we take on for homes and businesses in Milton and nearby.

  • 01

    Walk-in cooler & freezer service

Boxes that will not hold temperature diagnosed properly — compressor, metering device, defrost cycle or a door gasket that has been leaking cold air for a year.

  • 02

    Emergency refrigeration breakdown

A failed cooler is spoiled inventory by morning, so we carry common compressors, contactors and controls and get temperature back before the product is a write-off.

  • 03

    Ice machine repair & cleaning

Low production, cloudy cubes or a machine that freezes into one block — descaled, sanitized and the water filter changed on a schedule you can show a health inspector.

  • 04

    Ductless mini-split installation

Single or multi-head heat pumps mounted, line sets run and flared properly, vacuumed down and charged by weight instead of by guess.

  • 05

Rooftop unit & split system AC

Commercial rooftop units and residential condensers serviced, recharged and replaced, including the curb adapter and disconnect when the unit changes size.

  • 06

    Leak detection & refrigerant recovery

Electronic and nitrogen pressure testing to find where the charge is going, then recovery and recharge handled under the refrigerant handling rules rather than topped up and forgotten.

  • 07

Beer, bar & display case cooling

Draught systems, back-bar coolers and open display cases dialled in so the product sits at serving temperature and the case is not sweating onto the floor.

  • 08

    Preventive maintenance agreements

Scheduled coil cleaning, superheat and subcooling checks and temperature logs, which is what keeps a compressor from failing on the hottest Friday of the year.

Good questions

Frequently asked

Move the most perishable product into another cooler or a rented reefer and keep the door shut on the warm box — every opening adds heat and moisture the system then has to pull back out. Note the temperature you are actually reading and whether the fans are running, because a unit that is iced solid tells us something very different from one that is silent.

Not as a plan. A sealed system does not consume refrigerant, so a low charge means there is a leak, and adding gas without finding it is both against the refrigerant handling rules and a way to spend the same money every season. We pressure test, find it, quote the repair, and then recharge by weight.

It is if you have no ductwork, a hot addition or a top floor the furnace fan never satisfies. A cold-climate heat pump also heats down to well below freezing, so many customers use it as their shoulder-season heat and let the furnace handle the deep cold. Where you already have good ducts and an aging condenser, a conventional system is usually the cheaper answer.

Twice a year for most kitchens, quarterly if the condensers sit somewhere greasy or dusty. Condenser coils are the single biggest cause of failures we see — a coil packed with lint or kitchen grease makes the compressor run hot and long until it does not run at all. Cleaning is cheap; a compressor is not.

Yes. Refrigeration fails when it is busiest and hottest, and a restaurant cannot wait until Monday. After-hours calls carry a stated surcharge that we tell you before dispatch, never after the invoice.

We tell you the age, the refrigerant it runs on and what the repair costs against a replacement. Equipment running a phased-out refrigerant is the usual tipping point, because the gas gets expensive and scarce long before the machine dies. If the repair buys you three good years for a fraction of the replacement, we will say so.
