Who we are

About Escarpment Haul-Away

Escarpment Haul-Away started with one truck and a simple pitch: point at it and it is gone. The pricing has stayed by the truckload, quoted on site before anything is lifted, and the rest has stayed the same too — we do the carrying, we sweep up after ourselves, and anything that can be donated or recycled does not go to landfill just because that was easier. Estate cleanouts, renovation debris, a single couch or a shed that needs to come down, it is all the same crew and the same truck.

What we offer

Our services

Work we take on for homes and businesses in Milton and nearby.

  • 01

    Furniture & household junk

Couches, mattresses, box springs, desks, exercise equipment and the contents of a garage carried out from wherever they sit, including basements and third-floor walk-ups. You point at it, we lift it, and the truck leaves with it the same visit.

  • 02

    Appliance & electronics pickup

Fridges, freezers, stoves, washers, dryers and dehumidifiers hauled out and scrapped for the metal, with the refrigerant recovered by an ODP-certified technician first as O. Reg. 463/10 requires. TVs, monitors and computers go to an EPRA Recycle My Electronics depot instead of a landfill.

  • 03

    Estate & whole-house cleanouts

Every room emptied on a schedule that suits the executor or the listing agent, with photographs, documents and anything personal set aside for the family before the rest goes. Usable furniture and goods are pulled for donation rather than thrown in with the load.

  • 04

    Renovation & construction debris

Drywall, lumber, old cabinets, tile, plaster and lath, shingles and fixtures loaded straight from the pile your contractor left, or picked up in stages so the site stays workable. Clean drywall, wood and metal are kept separate for recycling where the transfer station accepts them.

  • 05

    Light demolition & tear-outs

Sheds, decks, fences, hot tubs, above-ground pools, old kitchens and finished basements taken apart and hauled away in one visit, with the site swept when we leave. Anything that might contain asbestos, such as pre-1990 drywall compound, vermiculite or old floor tile, gets tested before we disturb it, as O. Reg. 278/05 requires.

  • 06

A truck and crew instead of a bin

For a one-day cleanout, two people and a truck usually cost about the same as a bin, and you do none of the carrying, have no bin sitting on the driveway for a week, and need no road occupancy permit to park one on the street. You pay for the space you fill, not for a 20-yard bin you half use.

  • 07

    Concrete, brick, soil & shingles

Broken concrete, patio stones, sod, soil, gravel and shingle tear-off loaded by hand or wheelbarrow and taken to an aggregate recycler where one is nearby. Heavy material is priced by weight rather than by volume, because that is how the transfer station charges us for it.

  • 08

    Office & commercial cleanouts

Offices, storage units, retail tear-downs and property-management turnovers cleared after hours or on a weekend so tenants and customers are not stepping around the mess. Cubicles, desks and filing cabinets are broken down and loaded, and paper can go to a shredder on request.

Good questions

Frequently asked

The price is based on how much of the truck your stuff fills — a minimum for one or two items, then roughly a quarter, half, three-quarter or full load on a truck of about 15 cubic yards. Labour, fuel, dump fees and the two people are all in that number. The exceptions are heavy material like concrete, soil, brick and shingles, which we price by weight because the transfer station weighs the truck and charges us by the tonne, and a few items with a disposal surcharge such as mattresses and fridges. You get the price on site before we touch anything, and it does not change once we start loading.

If you can fill it yourself over a few weeks and have a driveway to put it on, a bin can be cheaper. If it is a one-day cleanout, if there are stairs, or if nobody wants to carry it, a truck and crew is usually the same money or less: a bin is billed whether you fill it or not, weight over the limit gets charged back to you, and a bin on the street needs a road occupancy permit in most municipalities. We will tell you honestly which one suits the job, even when it is the bin.

Anything the household hazardous waste rules keep out of a transfer station — paint, solvents, gasoline, propane cylinders, pesticides, pool chemicals and the like — which your municipality's HHW depot takes free. We also cannot take asbestos, biohazards or medical waste. Almost everything else is fine, including appliances, mattresses, tires, electronics, hot tubs and pianos, with a small surcharge on some of them for the disposal fee.

Sorted, as much as a truckload lets us. Furniture and goods in decent shape go to a donation partner such as a Habitat for Humanity ReStore or a local charity, metal goes to a scrap yard, electronics go to an EPRA Recycle My Electronics depot, and clean wood, drywall and concrete go to recyclers where the local transfer station accepts them. The rest goes to a licensed landfill or transfer station, and we keep the tipping receipts if you want them.

You or someone with keys needs to be there for the estimate and to point at what goes. You do not need to bag, box or carry anything to the curb; that is what you are paying for. It does help to pull out anything you want kept and set it somewhere obvious, because once a room is being cleared, things move fast.

Yes, and we do a lot of them for executors and listing agents on a deadline. We walk it first, quote the whole house rather than a load at a time if you prefer, and go room by room setting aside photographs, documents, jewellery and anything that looks personal for the family to look at before it leaves. Nobody on the crew has anything to say about the state of the place.
